Freight Operations (2002)

All pictures on this page are from 2002

One of the biggest, unrecorded events of 2002 was the rare use of Indus and Picton on construction work down on the Limehouse Cut

Python and a dumb barge were used to construct this temporary structure across the canal at Sheldon Square seen in May 2002. Thats Peter looking out of the doorway!

The occasional repainting of the railway bridges at Marylebone in July 2002 saw a motely collection of vessels pressed into service for the job

Particularly endearing at the Marylebone bridges work were the use of these signs. Whoever thought of no parking signs and a speed limit of 5mph for a canal? Mind you those waterbuses do a fair speed!

Yet more signage for the Marylebone rail bridges works! These signs warned boaters of the impending works and were illuminated at night with gas lamps

Later that week the Marylebone works boat was spotted at Lisson Grove tunnel. The other boat, crewed by Dennis, used to be seen quite a lot but not since 2003

Pride of London (BW's boat) seen during a canal trip on a very cold winter's day in December 2002. Photo was taken from London Waterbuses' Milton

The crew and vessel had made a occassional foray to Little Venice as the craft has a grab. This shift covering the Camden locks used to start from the Pirate Castle, but is now based more frequently at St Pancras
