Paddington Basin
Paddington Basin (5)
A feature of Paddington Basin is the Rolling Bridge. Here are some pictures of the bridge in operation during the making of a TV report in December 2004
The rolling bridge works a bit like an Armadillo, except that the bridge doesnt curl up when under threat!

In August 2005 the new bridge was being constructed in sections and the larger part was rolled across the smaller western segment into place. This picture is of interest because it shows Lady Rose of Regents in her final days as a private charter boat around the area. One of the very last links to the old BWB days was about to disappear. Who could ever forget Lady Rose when it was captained by Charlie Green, complete with smart white BW uniform? Charllie Green was a Number One and lived on the upper floor the Toll House at Little Venice with his wife. When he retired BW moved him to a lock-keepers house at Aspley, the upper floor was used to expand their London offices

The Plug! Despite Paddington basin being a restricted spot for photography, many people took pics of this artwork by James Glancy, and it was featured in many newspapers during March 2008 including the freebie London evening papers

A March 2005 view of the Paddington Walk development, situated adjacent to Marks & Spencer and sandwiched between the basin and the Harrow Road/M40. It consists of four towers alternating between eleven and fifteen storeys

In 2007 the route between Shelton Square and Paddington station was changed once again, temporarily, to enable work to be carried out on the retaining wall along the west side of Paddington Basin

More information can be got on the local waterways from BW's boat Jena, which is located opposite the Subway snackbar at Sheldon Square

Jena at her spot next to the Westway in Sheldon Square. She's easily accessible from either Little Venice or Paddington Remember the Paddington basin area is restricted in terms of photography. This is understandable because of security reasons etc. However it is possible to get a permit if you have a good reason for wanting to take non-commercial photographs of the basin area. A permit can be applied for at the security office next to the Helix bridge. Next page - More constructon in 2008
